2014 Time Capsule

2014 Time Capsule

$110
Details

We thought 2013 was a big vintage, and then 2014 happened! The prolonged drought and crop size put a lot of pressure on the vines, and we harvested in early August to preserve acidity. Retrospectively, the wines have developed additional complexity in bottle and are drinking beautifully right now.

We are featuring our Malbec, Melon de Bourgogne, and a single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc for this capsule. 2014 was the first and second vintages, respectively, for the Malbec and Melon; limited amounts of each were made.

The Malbec fruit was sourced from sandy soils within the Happy Canyon vineyard, and it was vinified in a carbonic style, resulting in a Malbec that is surprisingly light on its feet. The Melon was tank-fermented, and extended lees contact results in a wine that is as fresh as it is complex.

And finally, the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc was barrel fermented and came from a selection of our favorite lots from the Grassini Vineyard. This wine, in particular, is benefiting from additional bottle age.
