In the Vineyards
Lieu Dit Cabernet Franc results from the special combination of warm, sunny days and cool, windy nights in the Happy Canyon appellation of the Santa Ynez Valley. Working with own-rooted vines, we are able to achieve that remarkable combination of ripeness AND acidity that makes Cabernet Franc so compelling. Cabernet Franc brings elements of fruit, earth, tannin, and acidity. It’s our job to harvest when those four traits are in perfect harmony.
In the Winery
Gentle, whole-cluster fermentation is the starting point for our Cabernet Franc in the winery. Allowing the wine to build out its texture naturally, rather than working to achieve it through intervention, we get a Cabernet Franc that is fruity and supple up front while carrying through complex earthier notes and smooth tannins on the finish. We press the wine to neutral barrel and bottle it before the next vintage.
