2023 Cabernet Franc 'Rock Hollow Vineyard'

2023 Cabernet Franc 'Rock Hollow Vineyard'

Rock Hollow shows a different side of Cabernet Franc. Where our Santa Ynez Valley bottling is all about lift and immediacy, Rock Hollow leans into depth, detail, and the kind of natural tension that comes from a rocky, wind exposed site. The fruit is darker, the structure more pronounced, and the lines a bit firmer, yet the wine keeps the freshness and clarity that make Cabernet Franc so compelling in this region.

There has already been some thoughtful recognition for this wine, and much of it highlights exactly what drew us to Rock Hollow in the first place: its ability to deliver intensity without losing precision. It is a wine that opens slowly, rewards attention, and speaks clearly of where it is grown.

If SYV Franc is your weeknight go to, Rock Hollow is the bottle you pull when you want to show what Cabernet Franc can really do here. It stays vibrant and honest, but brings a grounded, mineral core that sets it apart.

In the Vineyards

Lieu Dit Cabernet Franc begins with the special combination of warm, sunny days and cool, windy nights of the Santa Ynez Valley. The fruit of Happy Canyon allows us to achieve that remarkable balance of ripeness and acidity that makes Cabernet Franc so compelling. This single grape variety provides elements of fruit, earth, herbs and flowers—and it’s our job to harvest when those four traits are in perfect harmony.

In the Winery

Gentle fermentation - sometimes with the whole grape cluster - is the starting point for our Cabernet Franc. Allowing the wine to build out its texture naturally through infusion, we get a Cabernet Franc that is first fruity and supple, then carried through to complex earthy notes, and finally smooth tannins on the finish. We press the wine to old barrels for aging and then bottle it in late spring.
